August Madness

By Priye Kebbina

I was a thought roaming the corners of my bathroom floor

I had every right to be seen not by the unseeing eyes

To become a central idea

transparent as the august blue moon

To walk the white ceramic earth that is my bathtub and listen

to listen to the lively songs of the mosquitoes starved of green blood

Yet I have looked at these crystal walls in front of me

Behind it a site that says everything good

Was here

And I was the epoch gem to be plucked

Red life flowed through my knotty veins

Telling the rock I’ve made of my body to unfurl

Like green larvae

Don’t I too deserve to be read like my blue days

ticked off by the uncanny mind on the calendar

I’d stopped in the middle of nowhere

backed out of the journeys to bush paths

And each time there’s a little come back

They say this human has gone through the phase

This is a clever poem built around logoclastic imagination where every key word transverses multiple worlds. The persona transforms into a “thought ” and imbued with the ability to roam the world of the bathroom. The poet then transforms mosquitos into singers which functions as a metaphor for complaints. I can go on and on,but I am overwhelmed with the freshness of ideas.

Rather deep, what is occupying your mind?
The epoch gem to be plucked? Is that a reference to marriage or wedding or what?
